The grant application process at the King Foundation includes two steps. Applicants must first submit a letter of inquiry and then be invited to submit a full proposal. The Foundation requires that requests for funding include certain information. For the required contents of letters of inquiry, click here. For the required contents of grant proposals, click here.
The King Foundation encourages introductory inquiries from groups interested in applying for a grant, particularly if they have not previously applied to the Foundation. The Foundation awards grants twice per year, in June and December.
Beginning with the spring 2012 grant cycle, applicants have the choice to submit letters of inquiry and proposals either online, or in the traditional paper format. In either case, the deadline is the same.
Letters of inquiry and applications prepared online must be submitted electronically by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline. If an agency prefers to submit using the paper format, letters of inquiry or applications must physically be in our office by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline. We will not accept requests that are postmarked by the deadline but delivered after that date. For either online or paper submission, if the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline will be extended to the next business day. Each submission must be complete as of the deadline.
